Three Efficient Ways to Improve Cognitive function

Just like your muscles and joints, your brain needs a workout every day in order to keep up its super strength and amazing abilities. If you are interested in improving the capabilities of your brain, this is entirely possible.

Our brains are plastic, which means that you can change them and improve them over time. The following are three ways to do just that.

1. Special Brain-Training Games

Some brain training games can actually improve your cognitive function. These range from simple puzzles to word games and riddles. You can find brain training game books, and you can also find games like these online.

2. Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation can be done in several different ways. First, you can actually take time out of your day to meditate. Meditation has a long history that is often associated with Far East religions, but you can also meditate by simply sitting quietly alone in a room and focusing on your breathing while trying not to let disturbing or distressing thoughts overtake your consciousness.

If this doesn’t sound like something that you’d be interested in, you can do more of a wakeful mindfulness meditation too. This includes simply focusing on each and every task that you do throughout the day with your full attention. Being mindful is about concentration and focus as opposed to mindlessness, which often happens when, for example, you drive home from work and don’t remember any of the drive.

3. Sleep

Lastly, sleep it is an excellent way to improve your cognitive function. You may think that you get enough sleep on a regular basis, but in fact, most people do not. As a general rule, men and women need at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep each night. Furthermore, this sleep should not be riddled with tossing and turning. You should be able to fall asleep and not get up until morning or only wake up a few times to perhaps go to the bathroom or shift positions.

If you have trouble sleeping, there are a few things that you can do. First, limit your screen time at night, and never bring your phone, tablet device or computer to bed with you. Next, create a nighttime routine for yourself. This might mean using a specific type of lotion, turning the lights down low or playing a bit of classical music before you get into bed. Finally, if you still have trouble sleeping, talk to your doctor. Sleep is one of the most important parts of ensuring a healthy life and improving your cognitive function overall.

By using the three strategies listed above, you will almost certainly improve the cognitive function of your brain and your overall well-being.
